Ask M4RX what he does and you’ll get a longer answer than “rapper.” The Chicago artist plays guitar and drums, sings, dances, and moves between rap and R&B, trying his hand at just about every style of both. It’s a rare mix, and it’s a big part of why his sound is hard to pin down.

That versatility shows in how he writes. Whether he’s working on a song or freestyling over an instrumental, his flow, delivery, and sound adapt to whatever the beat calls for. He can switch from hard-edged bars to a melody without losing his identity. These days he’s leaning further into singing, opening up a side of his artistry he says he has been holding back, and his blend of alternative vibes with rap is pointing him toward a fully alternative sound.

The stage is where a lot of that was built. M4RX has opened for Pop Smoke and PnB Rock and played plenty of local shows, and the work around the shows is the part he talks about most: nights without sleep after performances, then early-morning college radio interviews. He has also spent years on the mixtape circuit, with features on DJ-hosted tapes across DatPiff, HotNewHipHop, and LiveMixtapes alongside top artists, including the BET Awards Vol. 2 mixtape in 2015. Add appearances on FOX’s Empire and Chicago’s TheManCow Show, and he has covered television, radio, and live performance.

His approach to the business side is simple. M4RX describes his mindset as work, work, work and nothing else, like a businessman. It’s a useful way to see a career that has moved steadily forward without a major-label machine behind it, built on persistence and a belief that his music will leave a mark on the industry.

That camera-ready side matters too. People who know him describe him as lovable, funny, and easy to talk to, and a great actor when the camera is on. It’s a big reason the visual for “TRAPPED OUT” lands. The video, which has passed 300,000 views, comes across as the work of someone comfortable in front of an audience. M4RX calls it a testament to his creative journey and his relentless pursuit of innovation.

The results are starting to add up. Alongside the video’s 300K-plus views, 4 MY DAWGZ recently landed at #25 on the Amazon Music chart in the U.S. Neither number surprises someone who has spent this long building a following one show, one tape, and one interview at a time.

What M4RX seems most proud of isn’t a number, though. It’s the community forming around his music, one that values authenticity and raw energy over polish. His invitation to listeners is the line he keeps coming back to: “let your misf!t out.” It’s a message that fits an artist who has never stayed inside one lane.
