Even though Mariah Carey is one of the world’s most iconic stars, she has zero interest in leaving Earth’s atmosphere — even after learning that Katy Perry recently did just that. In fact, Mariah Carey Recently Found out That Katy Perry Traveled to Space Months Ago — and her reaction is priceless. Is this helpful so far?
Mariah Learns the Shocking News
During a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, posted on Thursday (Aug. 7), Carey had no idea that Perry had been part of Blue Origin’s first-ever all-female space trip earlier this year. The April mission made headlines worldwide, but it clearly slipped past the Songbird Supreme.
“Did she go to space? Where’d she go?” Carey asked in genuine surprise when the interviewer brought it up.
When told that Perry went into orbit, Carey responded in her trademark cool tone, “She’s like, floating in the… And this is true? Wow. All right, Katy. I’m not mad at her, that’s pretty amazing.”
Why Mariah’s Not Joining the Space Race
When asked if she would ever take her own trip among the stars, Carey’s answer was pure diva wit: “I think I’ve done enough,” she said with a smirk. Clearly, space travel isn’t on her bucket list.
Katy Perry’s Historic Flight
Although Carey missed the news, Perry’s space journey in April was widely covered. She was among a group of women who traveled roughly 62 miles above Earth aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket. The mission crossed the Kármán line — the recognized boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space — before returning about 10 minutes later.
While the expedition was celebrated by many as a milestone for women in space exploration, it also drew criticism from some who viewed it as a costly publicity stunt. Perry defended the mission, telling reporters that it was “about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging… this is all for the benefit of Earth.”
Mariah’s Next Big Launch — Music, Not Rockets
Carey may not be blasting into space, but she’s preparing for a different kind of launch — her next album. The superstar is set to release Here for It All this September, following the singles “Type Dangerous” and “Sugar Sweet,” which features Kehlani and Shenseea.
So while Katy Perry has her head in the stars, Mariah Carey is keeping her feet firmly on the ground — and her voice ready to soar on the charts.
