MGK revealed that his ex-fiancée, Megan Fox, was “fuming” after he received praise for simply holding their newborn, Saga Blade, saying, “She’s the one who does all the work.” The rapper and rock artist is currently in full promo mode ahead of the release of his highly anticipated album Lost Americana, which dropped on Friday (Aug. 8).
During a lighthearted appearance on Today With Jenna and Friends this past Thursday (Aug. 6), co-host Jenna Bush Hager and Las Culturistas’ Matt Rogers shifted the conversation away from music to talk about fatherhood. As a surprise, they gifted MGK a baby onesie for little Saga Blade, featuring the Today show’s logo, before asking what kind of dad he considers himself to be.
Giving Credit Where It’s Due
When asked about life with his nearly five-month-old daughter, MGK lit up and responded, “It’s awesome.” He quickly added that he prefers the attention go to Megan Fox. “I wanna detract any of the congrats to me and just move it to Megan because she really does all the work. I keep getting called the ‘Music Teacher.’”
MGK joked about a recent moment when someone praised him as a “good dad” simply because he was holding Saga Blade. Meanwhile, Fox—standing nearby—was visibly irritated. Laughing, he admitted that while people think he’s doing a lot, it’s really Megan who’s putting in the hard parenting hours. “She is the one… I just play the guitar and hope and pray that the baby is happy,” he said. The artist, dressed in ripped jeans, a striped T-shirt, and a Lost Americana baseball cap, kept the tone playful throughout the interview.
Updates on His Teenage Daughter
The conversation also touched on MGK’s older daughter, Casie, from a previous relationship. Casie recently celebrated her 16th birthday, and while she’s eager to start driving, a paperwork issue means she can’t get her permit until at least September. MGK laughed that she’ll probably have her license before him, since he still doesn’t have one himself. “I expect her to drive me to the bank once she gets it—since I’ve been covering all the bills so far,” he joked.
Balancing Family and Music
Despite the family talk, MGK didn’t forget his fans. He shared that he recently performed an intimate show at Cellar Dog in New York’s West Village for 300 lucky fans, debuting his Semi-Charmed Life-inspired track “Starman.” He’s planning more small pop-up performances in the coming week to keep the excitement alive.
While a full tour announcement was initially on the table months ago, MGK decided to delay due to the challenging economy and a crowded touring season. “Inevitably, I have to announce a tour because I know that is a service to my fans,” he said. Before wrapping up the segment, he even showed off his hula hoop skills, proving he’s always ready to entertain—on or off stage.
