What is your name and what city do you rep?
My name is Joshua Powers and I rep El Paso Texas Chuco Town!
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My latest release is just joshin’. This is the biggest project I’ve done so far with six and a half minutes of straight bars. Speaking on a variety of real topics from keeping the right energy around you too appreciating the support systems in our lives. Even how the world has changed and keeping your motivation through this adaptation. All my songs have been inspired by real feelings and a particular state of mind.
What is unique about you and your music?
Well I definitely work hard to be original and build my own sound and path for myself. It’s difficult to be specific as too what will make me so different from other people’s music because I believe all true musicians find all there inspiration from other legendary artists or even your local pub band.
What shaped your music?
my music is shaped by the melodies that the rhythm makes me feel. Than I let the words find themselves like a puzzle. Once I have the words I listen to some golden records. I’m talking about tracks that have the perfect energy Michael Jackson status. I use the inspiration from the greats and get to work.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally? I’ve always known in my heart and soul. Never once doubted my love for music, put that with a hard work ethic and you got an unstoppable force.
What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to everything for the most part. What I listen to the most would be reggae, hip-hop, and oldies.
What inspires you to write music?
Usually moments of love or pain. Considering that there is a thin line between the two I think any creative expression subconsciously comes from these places.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
When I’m not working on music I usually will be out exploring and experiencing life making sure I keep having stories to tell around the fire. I’m passionate about spirituality and energy so real life is the best teacher of energy and spirituality.
Happiness to you is…
a feeling of comfort and belonging. Think of coming to what is considered your safe place or your home except home is where the heart is.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
To have people around you that truly support you because you can’t do this by yourself.
Tell us about your upcoming projects…
I got an EP coming soon it’s pretty classified as of right now but I gotta an amazing team behind the project. I will tell you that I’m coming with better sounds and productions in 2023 with lots of love behind it so stay on the look out.
